The Bargeman’s Rest Celebrates 25th Anniversary

The Bargeman’s Rest was packed with well-wishers last Saturday, 8th June, as it celebrated its 25th birthday with a day filled with fantastic food, drinks and live music.

To mark the milestone, the pub offered a 25% discount across all of its drink offerings in the afternoon, with local Island band ‘Black Daniels’ providing the soundtrack for the festivities.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 25 years of serving our wonderful community,” said the pub's owner, Jane Gibbs.

“This milestone is a testament to our loyal patrons and dedicated staff who have made the Bargeman's Rest a home away from home for so many.”

Nestled in the Little London area of Newport Quay, the family-run pub has been a hit with visitors and locals alike since opening its doors in the summer of 1999.

It’s renowned for its characterful maritime decor, panoramic views across the River Medina and its extensive selection of real ales, beers and ciders.

Prior to being established as one of the Island’s most successful pubs, the site was little more than a collection of old warehouses.

The pub's main building, once known as the Derrick Store, was built by the ‘Sheppards’ family and dates all the way back to the 1880s.

The building saw use as squash courts, a clubhouse for the local Newport cricket club and even a toy museum, before a major refurbishment in the late 1990s.
