Strongest Entry Of Cars Yet For Annual Sandown Sprint

Motor racing fans have just over a week to wait until this year’s Island Car Centre Sandown Sprint, held over the weekend of 20-21 April.

The event has attracted its strongest entry of cars yet, as the Isle of Wight’s premier motorsport event continues to grow.

One hundred cars are due to compete on a specially created track along Culver Parade in Sandown.

This year spectators can get closer than ever to the action.

The new Race Village in Fort Street will showcase all the cars and drivers before they venture out to the start line.

Cars range from legendary stars from the world of rallying to fire-breathing, NASCAR-inspired monsters, with almost everything in between.

Promoter Tim Addison said: 

“It’s not often that Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Goodwood comes to the Island.

"Many of the cars at Sandown next weekend will be starring at events around the country this year and this is a unique chance to see them up close and personal, right on your doorstep”.

Tickets are priced from just £10 per day if bought online in advance and accompanied children aged 11 and under are totally free.

Sandham Gardens is also offering all of its attractions, including Dino Golf, the Skynets and karting, at half price.

Cars will start from Fort Street before driving against the clock towards Yaverland.

All the cars will also be running in classes depending on the size of engine and other criteria.

The course itself has been slightly extended at the finish and this year all ticket holders will be able to watch the action from both sides of the track.

In addition to the new Race Village and main Culver Parade viewing area, access to the Browns enclosure will be open to all ticket holders.

This will provide an opportunity to see improvements to the popular Browns Golf Course site.

“The quality and variety of cars is better than ever, with some fantastic cars from Island entrants.

"From thoroughbred classics through to specialist track and rally cars, there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
