‘Sewage, Parking And Second Homes’ - Nettlestone And Seaview Residents’ Reveal Most Common Issues

Residents in the villages of Nettlestone and Seaview are being asked their views’ on the Parish’s future in an online survey.

The parish council is in the early stages of preparing its first ‘Neighbourhood Plan’ - which helps local people shape change in their area over the next 10 to 15 years.

The Neighbourhood Plan - which would inform planning policy - can also help protect local green spaces; encourage better design and architecture; and allow for housing that meets local needs.

The survey includes questions such as “If you were ‘Mayor for the Day’, what one thing would you do to influence change?”

It also asks for views on architecture; development; and local infrastructure such as cycle paths or community facilities.

Among the responses many residents said they value the safe community the parish provides including: “The peaceful atmosphere”; “Beautiful green spaces”; and “Community spirit”.

However some expressed concerns about sewage outfalls causing pollution on the beaches and issues with parking in high season.

The high proportion of second homes was also highlighted by many who have so far filled in the survey with one making this connection: “Second homes - their effect on the community and lack of affordable housing for young people”.

The Neighbourhood Plan will have legal standing and will build on the non-binding Parish Plan published in 2017.

Patricia Redpath, Parish Councillor says:

"We are really encouraged by the number of responses already received to our survey - which is building a good picture of the views and priorities of those living and working in the Parish and beyond.”

“The Parish Council would like to urge as many people as possible to access the form online and make sure your views are heard.”

The Parish Council is inviting all residents, business owners and other interested parties to fill out the survey by clicking on this link - before the deadline of Sunday, November 12 or via the Nettlestone and Seaview Parish Council website.
