Sandown Plans Bumper Day To Open Isle Of Wight Carnival Season

After last weekend's disappointment when bad weather forced the cancellation of Newport Carnival, Sandown is ready to get the Island’s 2023 carnival season started on Saturday (July 29).

The popular Sandown Children’s Parade takes place in the morning, with the spectacular Main Carnival making its way through the town in the evening.

Paul Coueslant, Sandown Carnival chairperson, said:

"Our hearts went out to our friends in Newport last week.

"Fingers crossed, the forecast for this weekend looks better and we can’t wait to welcome everyone for a day of fun and entertainment.

"We're really looking forward to putting on a day-long show for people to enjoy."

Entrants for the Children’s Carnival need to register by the Pier at 10.15am, with the parade moving off at 11am for Sandham Gardens where Sandown’s Carnival Queens will be crowned, followed by family entertainment until teatime.

On the bill are Soundwaves Entertainment DJ Paul Holbrook, magic and comedy from Stevo & Kai and a big helping of reggae from Island favourite Derek Sandy.

Main Carnival entrants can register from 5pm, with the parade setting off up the High Street from the Library at 7pm.

Further details can be found online and on the Sandown Carnival Facebook page.
