Quay Arts Summer School Returns For 2023

Quay Arts is set to bring back its popular Summer School programme of specialist art courses.

Summer School creative courses are led by professional artists and tutors and cover a range of art skills and mediums.

This year there are exciting new opportunities on offer such as an introduction to the ancient painting medium of Egg Tempera, a starter introduction to Straw Marquetry and two fun necklace making workshops led by handmade statement jewellery brand Tatty Devine.

Also in the programme are four ‘Inspired by’ – Oil Painting Workshops with painting tutor Nick Martin.

Each separate workshop will look closely at the work of a different painter - Pierre Bonnard, Joan Mitchell, Claude Monet and Ivon Hitchens.

Painters are also catered for with Martin Swan’s two day watercolour course focussing on Botanical Watercolours.

Clay enthusiasts can spend a day getting to grips with the tricky task of preparing and applying glazes with Clair Robinson in the All-Day Glaze course.

Dramatic Landscapes will be the focus in Caroline Underwood’s day long Charcoal Drawing workshop and Kae Carlstedt-Duke from the Lazy Dog Press is leading three specialist bookmaking workshops that each explore a variation of techniques, including origami and carving printing stamps.

Summer school courses and workshops are run in late July and throughout August and are held at Quay Arts, and Quay Arts Jubilee Stores studios, in Newport.

For more course information please go to the Quay Arts website (www.quayarts.org) and look under the ‘What’s On’ tab.

Courses can be booked online at www.quayarts.org or by calling the Box Office on 822490.
