Whippingham's Priory School has celebrated World Book Day in style today (Thursday).
Pupils and staff arrived at school dressed as their favourite book characters from A Christmas Carol, Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, Dracula, Rapunzel, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians and many more.
In the weeks leading up to the event, the school held a World Book Day assembly and published on its social media pages pictures of staff and their favourite reads.
To encourage reading for pleasure and to engender a lifelong love of reading, every lesson today, regardless of subject and pupil age, began with the class teacher reading several chapters from a carefully selected novel.
Mr DEJJ Lloyd, Principal, stated:
“Everyone had great fun dressing up, while enjoying the simple pleasure of beginning every lesson with the next few chapters from an age-appropriate book”.
