Newport Primary School In Collaboration With Local Care Home

A care home and primary school - both based in Newport -- have teamed up to foster intergenerational Bonding and enrich lives throughout gardening, reading and music.

In a heartwarming union of generations, Vecta House Care Home and Summerfields Primary School have come together to create an extraordinary bond between their residents and children.

The partnership began when Vecta House and Summerfields joined forces for gardening club, which is now called the friends and family garden.

They planted colourful flowers and have a Vegetable patch creating a peaceful sanctuary that brings joy to all that visit.

This communal endeavour not only beautifies the care home but also cultivates a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and unity among residents and children.

The partnership between Vecta House and Summerfields extends beyond the gardens creation.

During the much anticipated sports day, the residents and children engaged in a variety of games.

Laughter filled the air as they joyfully raced in the classic egg and spoon race.

Among many activities that have brought the residents and children together, the Book Club has emerged as a beloved highlight. The residents and children gather regulary to share stories that ignite their imaginations and spark meaningful conversations.

On their last visit children made each resident a card thanking them for allowing them to share their books and how they enjoyed coming to visit.

The book club has become so popular that Vecta House Care Home are inviting children to continue visiting throughout the summer holidays.

Tanya Everson, Activities Lead at Vecta House Care Home, said:

"I am proud of the bond between the residents and children - the joy and new bonds formed between residents and children is heart warming to witness.

"We have had great feedback from residents and look forward to continuing our partnership in the future."
