Newport Minster Concert In Aid Of Dementia Sufferers And Their Carers

The Phoenix Choir will be performing in the recently renovated Newport Minster on Saturday 13 July in aid of the Minster’s new community project for those living with dementia and their carers.

The Minster’s Community Engagement Coordinator, Hannah Griffiths, said:

“As part of Newport Minster’s refurbishment we have focused on making the building as accessible as possible and we now want to create a programme of accessible activities to go along with that.

"We will be focusing on a number of areas including dementia friendly activities, this will be a programme of dementia friendly services, a conversational café and creative activities supported by Independent Arts which will all be funded through donations from this event.

"All the staff and volunteers at Newport Minster complete Alzheimer’s Society dementia friendly sessions as part of their induction.”

Robin Burnett, the Phoenix Choir’s Musical Director said:

“The choir are delighted to be singing in the renovated Minster, a wonderful new venue for concerts and events for Newport and the whole Island.

"We are also proud to be performing in aid of the Minster’s project to assist those with dementia and their helpers - a truly worthwhile
cause.”

The Phoenix Choir will be singing from their wide-ranging repertoire with songs from Phantom Of The Opera, Cats and The Lion King, and film tunes from Titanic, We Were Soldiers and Gladiator amongst others.

Admission is free, by booking through the Minster’s website or on the door.

There will be a retiring collection to help fund the Minster’s dementia programme as above.

The concert commences at 7.30pm with doors open from 7pm.
