Newport Care Home Celebrates Remarkable Life of Marie: A Centenarian with a Unique Birthday Tradition

A Newport care home is celebrating the 101st birthday of an esteemed resident.

For Marie Flore — a resident of Newport's Orchard House Care Home — the journey through life has been a constant adventure.

Born in Mauritius on October 2, 1922, Marie spent her formative years as a resident of the island nation.

1950 saw her embark upon a new adventure by moving to the United Kingdom, where she made her home in Shepherds Bush, London, alongside her husband.

They created cherished memories together before relocating first to Harrow and later to the Isle of Wight.

Marie’s career took her to Harrods, where she played a pivotal role in the Juice Bar, expertly preparing fresh fruit for delighted customers.

However, as her family expanded, Marie found great fulfilment in her role as a dedicated housewife, lovingly caring for her daughter, Danielle, and taking on various jobs along the way.

Marie’s interests have always been diverse.

She possesses a deep passion for sewing, creating exquisite pieces with her skilled hands.

Music and dancing have brought joy and rhythm to her life, and she thoroughly enjoyed her fair share of parties and celebrations.

In addition to her extraordinary journey, Marie is a loving and proud grandmother to two grandchildren, and she now embraces the joy of being a great-grandmother.

A spokesperson for Orchard House Care Centre said:

"We are privileged to have Marie as a cherished member of our community, and we celebrate her rich life, her unique birthday tradition, and the wisdom that comes with a century of experience."
