More Than £8,500 Given To Good Causes In Latest Round Of WightAID Donations

Local charity WightAID has given out more than £8,500 to seven good causes in its latest round of donations.

The latest ceremony saw Planet Aware given £500 towards First Aid training for their volunteers.

Freshwater Memorial Hall and Leisure Company received a £500 grant towards poster frames to advertise upcoming community events.

Ryde’s Nelson Explorer Unit received £400 towards lightweight dehydrated meals for Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Scheme expedition practice.

The Getaway Foundation helps families which have never had a holiday together and have been impacted by poverty.

The trustees granted £5,601 to give seven families from the Isle of Wight a chance to have a much-needed holiday and have a chance to create memories.

Queensgate Primary School received £500 towards costume and set for the children to take part in a Dance Competition called Dance Live.

Steve Porter, WightAID trustee, presented the cheque at the school and enjoyed meeting some of the pupils who were going to be taking part in the Competition.

The Cove at The Bay Secondary School, Sandown, was granted £500 towards Samba drums. Geoff Underwood, trustee and WightAID founder, enjoyed meeting some of the children with their new drums.

Gurnard Parent and Toddler Group received £500 towards much-needed new toys and a tepee for the reading area.

Geoff Underwood said:

“It is great to support such a wide variety of good causes, many of them involving young people and enabling to do things they may not have been able to have done.”
