A kind-hearted Islander will take on his most physically testing challenge to date to raise money for a suicide prevention charity.
Jack Faulds will run 16 marathons in January — one every other day from New Year's Day until January 31 — to raise money for CALM (The Campaign Against Living Miserably).
He was inspired to do so after losing several friends to suicide, prompting him to take action and place a spotlight on a matter close to his heart.
Jack explained:
"I'm trying to raise awareness of suicide while raising funds for charities.
"It all started in 2022 when I did my first ultramarathon after a friend of mine took his own life.
"I've decided to take on a different kind of challenge with a marathon every other day in January to continue raising money."
A keen runner, Jack completed the London Marathon earlier this year in a little over three hours.
He has faced his own struggles in the past, but picked himself up in an effort to help others.
Jack added:
"I used to drink a bit and go into a downward spiral.
"After my friend died, I decided I had to do something and it's led me to this journey for the past couple of years."
Jack has already raised thousands of pounds for Mind and CALM since starting his mission in 2022.
On days where the January marathons fall on a weekday, Jack will complete a full day's work with Island Roads before setting off at around 6pm in the evening to complete a 26.2-mile circuit which starts and finishes in Newport.
People who would like to get involved and support the cause can do so by contacting Jack via his Instagram page.
Island Roads is match funding the first £300 that he has raised, taking the total amount for next month's epic effort to £647 so far.
You can show your support and help bolster that total by donating via his Just Giving page.
