Isle Of Wight's Very Own Wombles Receive Recognition For Litter Picking Efforts

Chair Cllr Andrew Garratt giving the certificate to Wombles team members

The Isle of Wight's very own Wombles have been recognised for their regular clean-up missions.

A Certificate of Appreciation was given to voluntary litter picking group Vectis Wombles.

They received the accolade at Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council’s (NCCC) monthly Full Council meeting.

A glittering ceremony also saw the group gifted with black and clear bin bags in lieu of a trophy.

These will be distributed among members as part of the Newport Litter Project where the group have been working in partnership with NCCC.

Vectis Wombles have recently been carrying out litter picks in Newport hot spots including Island Harbour and Downside.

They recently won silver in the ‘Community Project of the Year’ category of the Isle of Wight Community Awards 2023 for their work across the island.

Chair Cllr, Andrew Garratt, said:

“We are extremely grateful to Vectis Wombles for their continuing efforts around the island, especially in Newport.”

Vectis Wombles will be attending Chale Show and can be found on Facebook.
