Isle Of Wight Students Celebrating Successful GCSE Results Day

Students from across the Isle of Wight are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results this morning (Thursday.)

Students at Cowes Enterprise College are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE results, as they get ready to take their next steps in their education journey.

Everyone has come together to mark the achievements of all the students, who have worked exceptionally hard over the past couple of years to secure these grades.

Today’s GCSE results continue to be good with 74% of students achieving a grade 9 to 4 in both English and Maths, and 52% achieving a grade 9 to 5. 

These results come after last week’s very successful A-Level results, where Cowes Enterprise College successfully achieved 24% A*-A, 57% A*-B and 81% A* - C with an average grade of a B.

Alongside the continued success of the academy, which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), some particular individual highlights include:

• Emily Tickner successfully achieved three 9s, five 8s and one 7
• Sumaiya Musabbir secured two 9s, four 8s and three 7s
• Elena Cowley came away with three 9s, five 8s and one 7
• Rees Harker attained two 9s, three 8s, three 7s and a 5
• Jess Blackwell achieved four 9s, one 8 and two 6s
• Freddie Sheath has received one 9, two 8s, four 7s, one 6 and a 4
• Liberty Marshall attained two 9s, five 7s, and two 6s
• Jacob Harper-Sowerby successfully achieved four 8s, two 7s a 6, a 5, and a 4

As a successful sixth form, Cowes is welcoming applications from students from across the island to apply.

"They have all worked really hard to secure these excellent results, which will allow them to take their exciting next steps.

Priory pupils celebrate record results

In the first year of a full return to pre-Covid marking and grading, Priory School pupils and staff have truly excelled themselves.

In total, 18 different subjects were taken and 158 grades recorded, with pupils achieving a 100% pass rate, 97% of grades at 9 – 4, and 50% of grades at 9 – 7, the latter equating to the old A – A* grade.

The distribution of results was cause for great celebration, and the Principal, Mr David EJJ Lloyd, expressed his personal pride in the talent, resilience and empathy of the class of 2023.

He stated:

"The pupils have overcome the highly publicised uncertainty around the 2023 examination series, worked hard as individuals and as a community and are fully deserving of their marvellous grades."

Ryde Academy Celebrates Students' Achievements

Students and staff from Ryde Academy are celebrating today after receiving top GCSE grades.

The Year 11 students who sat the exams in May and June are getting their results today, helping set their course for the future.

The exams represent the culmination of their secondary school education and the grades students secure determine what they will go on and do next – further study, an apprenticeship or entry level role in the workplace.

This is the second year that exams have taken place as normal, but schools across the country are still dealing with the impact of the pandemic.

To support the Year 11 students, staff at Ryde Academy, which is part of AET – a national network of schools - laid on additional bespoke intervention lessons, holiday sessions and special evening revision sessions.

All students also accessed lesson 6 provision giving students an extra hour a day of lessons.

All these efforts paid off, with students securing some brilliant results, including:

• Catherine Propia - 7  9s and 3 grade 8s

• Harry Sheppard - 4 9s, 5 8s and 1 grade 7s

• Draven Scovell - 4 9s, 5 8s and 1 grade 7

• Lily Millward - 6 9s, 2 grade 8’s, 1 grade 7 and 1 grade 6. 

• Yvie Partridge: 5 grade 9s, 3 8s and 1 7.

Principal, Joy Ballard of Ryde Academy said:

“We are so proud of our students, they achieved beyond expectations this year and gave their all, supported of course by their brilliant teachers who certainly went the extra mile to ensure that they did so.”

Ryde School celebrates happy GCSE day

GCSE results are being celebrated today at Ryde School with 41% of all grades at 9, 8 or 7 which represents the best results the School has achieved at this level since the 9-1 grading system was fully introduced (excluding Covid-adjusted years).

This is particularly notable given a national trend of fewer top GCSE grades.

Ryde School pupils celebrated an impressive 23% of grades at 9 to 8 with 89% of grades at 9 to 4. After all their efforts over the last two years, pupils are justifiably celebrating their achievements.

The School would also like to highlight some outstanding individual grades.

Alice Owen achieved eight GCSEs at grade 9 with one subject at grade 8. Wilona Rong attained seven GCSEs at grade 9, two at grade 8 and one at grade 7, while Benjamin Lochhead achieved seven GCSEs at grade 9 and two at grade 8.

Sophie Corry, Hugo Gallerwood, Franz Michalos, Eliot O’Sullivan and Kavin Sivalingham all achieved seven or more grades 9 or 8 in their subjects.

Over a third of pupils achieved five or more GCSEs at grade 7 or higher and 64.8% of pupils achieved five or more GCSEs at grade 6 or higher.

Head Master Will Turner commented:

“Ryde School pupils can be very proud of the grades they have received today.

"These excellent results are a reflection of their ambition and hard work over the past two years. I would also like to thank their teachers for guiding and supporting them so well throughout their GCSE courses.

"We are all delighted to see such strong results today following on from the impressive A Level and IB results last week.”

Carisbrooke College

Carisbrooke College students, staff and governors are celebrating today as year 11 collect their GCSE results.

The Governors and staff are very proud that the majority of students are remaining within the Isle of Wight Education Federation community, by moving on to take A Level and vocational Level 3 courses at The Island VI Form.

However, students are also progressing into a range of apprenticeships and other further education studies both on and off the Island.

Head of School at Carisbrooke College, Karen Begley, said:

“I am incredibly proud of our year 11 students and their achievements this year.

"They remained motivated throughout the year and worked really hard to make sure that they achieved their best.

"I am excited to watch the students taking the next steps in their education and wish them all the best for the future.”

Good day for the Bay

Everyone among The Bay CE school community declared themselves proud that this cohort of young people have risen to the extraordinary challenges posed by the pandemic during key education years in the build up to their GCSEs.

Christ the King College

Year 11 students have followed the example of their A-Level peers this week with a great showing on GCSE results day.

Against the backdrop of an interrupted education caused by the pandemic and industrial action, 16 year olds at Christ the King have demonstrated strength of character, determination and resilience to overcome many hurdles to achieve a highly commendable set of GCSE and BTEC results.

A spokesperson for Christ the King said:

"The majority of these Year 11 students will continue their post-16 education with us into our popular and successful Sixth Form, with others doing likewise elsewhere on the Island.

"Whatever the future holds for our Year 11 students, we wish them well. God bless them all as they take the next steps on their journey."

Medina College

Governors, staff and students have been celebrating at Medina College today as students received their GCSE results.

Despite starting their GCSE courses at the height of the pandemic, students have demonstrated their resilience, dedication and commitment to their
studies and they should all feel very proud of their achievements.

Matthew Parr-Burman, Executive Headteacher for the Isle of Wight Education Federation and Head of School for Medina College, said:

“I am extremely proud of our students; it has been a pleasure to see them opening their results today.

"Their hard work has paid off and they leave us with skills and qualities that will stand them in good stead for their next steps.
