International Disabilities Day Marked In Sandown

Sandown Town Council marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, in December, with the start of work on its’ Changing Places facility at Eastern Gardens, Sandown,

The facility has internal and external work planned over the Winter, with a formal opening in the Spring.

Town Mayor, Alex Lightfoot, said:

"Working with Muscular Dystrophy UK, the Isle of Wight Council, and other partner agencies, this is a major accessibility project for the Town Council.

"This was part funded by the Department of Levelling Up and complements investment in accessible facilities at St John’s, the Broadway Centre, as well as at Eastern Gardens.

"Changing Places toilets are larger accessible toilets for severely disabled people, with equipment such as hoists, privacy screens, adult-sized changing benches, peninsula toilets and space for carers."
