East Cowes Celebrating 200 Years Of RNLI This Bank Holiday

East Cowes will host its celebration for the RNLI's 200th anniversary over the bank holiday.

The town has built more lifeboats to help save and rescue lives than any other town or place in the United Kingdom.

Ken Wheeler has produced a local historic film celebrating more than 400 classic lifeboats, of all types and shapes being built over the last 150 years., which will be shown for the first time on Saturday evening at 7pm.

Town exhibition will take place for four days from Friday (May 24) with the town hall filled with pictures and stories of them being built and used across the whole of the United Kingdom.

There were many local shipyards in East Cowes building lifeboats and Ken’s new film captures that history.

Also on Friday, there will be the unveiling of a plaque tribute to the RNLI and lifeboats building heritage held at 2.30pm on Clarence Road.
