Concern for the well-being of a 46-year-old man led to Cowes Lifeboat carrying out a search of the upper reaches of the River Medina earlier this week.
Although the lifeboat, using its search-light, extensively combed the river, especially along the stretch bordering Seaclose Recreation Ground, nothing was found.
The lifeboat, which had launched just after 10pm was on the water for some two hours.
Also involved in the search, along the shore, were police, Bembridge and Ventnor coastguards, and Wight SAR.
Eventually the man was found safe by the police helicopter, walking up Stag Lane, near Newport.
