Bowel Cancer UK have announced Jennifer Rayner, the Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist, from St Mary's Hospital as winner of the prestigious Gary Logue Colorectal Nurse Cancer Awards.
Jennifer is the recipient of the award for a nurse nominated by a patient and their families. The judges loved hearing how she went above and beyond in providing counselling support to her patients at all stages of their cancer journeys.
The awards were presented by the Chief Executive of Bowel Cancer UK, Genevieve Edwards, at the National Colorectal Cancer Nurses Network (NCCNN) Annual Education Event on Thursday 28 September 2023. As part of the award, Jennifer received a bursary towards her professional development.
Jennifer said:
“I am completely overwhelmed to have been chosen as the winner for this special award.
"It is an honour and a privilege that a patient has taken the time to nominate me. I love the job that I do and it feels truly humbling to be recognised for it.”
Ash Redfern, Deputy lead cancer nurse at Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Jennifer’s manager said:
"Jennifer is the embodiment of a clinical nurse specialist, and we are delighted she has been recognised for this award as recognition for her services to her patients.
"We feel incredibly proud as a cancer nursing service to have Jennifer as part of our team and wish her many congratulations. Well done Jen!”
The awards were set up in memory of Gary Logue, who worked as a nurse for the charity and died in 2014, in honour of the tireless dedication he showed during his career.
