The Apollo Players are ready to open their 51st season - and Romeo and Juliet will be the first to tread the Pyle Street boards tonight (Friday).
The theatre group's bold production’s staging looks at the doomed love story in a modern context.
A female dominated cast will delve into Shakespeare’s rich and beautiful language, alongside a dynamic score of recent tracks.
Director Joe Plumb - fresh from a busy summer of festival shows and workshops - leads the creative team, with Movement Direction by talented choreographer Callum Davies.
Joe Plumb said:
“We begin on a building site where a former estate is being ripped down to make way for shiny new high-rise flats.
"Two families in desperate poverty are deepening their bitter conflict. Women have their keys in their hands and bark like dogs if men try to approach them in the streets. Verona is not safe.”
The show runs from 1st-9th September and tickets are great value - starting from only £5. They can be purchased online https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/apollotheatre and at the Box Office on Pyle Street or by calling 01983 527267.
