An Isle of Wight care home is asking Islanders to send a birthday card to one of its residents — who has outlived her friends and has no family — as she turns 105 next month.
Staff at Blackwater Mill residential care home, where 104-year-old Joan lives, say she is a "wonderful lady" who "deserves the best day possible".
She turns 105 on September 17, and to mark the occasion, the home is trying to get her as many cards as possible.
A spokesperson for the care home told Isle of Wight Radio:
"One drawback of reaching a grand age is that she has outlived her friends, and she doesn’t have any family.
"With that in mind, we are asking if people would send her a card to help her get as many as possible for her special day.
"She is a wonderful lady, and she deserves the best day possible.
"We know that the Isle of Wight community spirit is amazing, and hopefully the community will all get involved and help us to create a fabulous day for a fabulous lady."
A plea on the Isle of Wight Community Information Facebook page has already struck a chord with hundreds of Islanders.
