Even if you don’t celebrate St Valentine’s Day, embrace this perfect excuse to indulge in some new gorgeous lingerie, suggests Sara Whatley.
Generally, no one sees our underwear apart from ourselves – it hides away under our clothes. And this is what gives us the permission to be as daring as we please and indulge in our true unique style. You might love the bright lacy types, or the muted smooth numbers; perhaps you go for shape enhancing push ups or favour a barely there skim of support for the girls. Whatever your fancy, wear your underwear for your own satisfaction.
A saucy underwear set suits every body type out there, from the curvaceous to the lean and everything in between. With amazing technology and a plethora of different materials, the underwear on the market today caters for every eventuality; everyday, fun, play, sports, it’s all there to support your body through life. It's easier now than ever to find the underwear that celebrates your beautiful body.
Let’s look at some different underwear styles, and you might just find yourself tempted to invest in a new set this Valentine’s Day.
The Bottom Line
There is a surprising amount of knicker styles out there! Classic briefs are a good place to start with their comfortable cut and generous cover. Variations on this are the high-cut briefs with a higher cut on the leg, or control briefs which rise high on the tummy and low on the leg for full coverage.
The hipster, bikini and boy-shorts are all styles that rise lower on the tummy to create a ‘squarer’ overall shape. Bikini pants are cut higher on the leg than the hipster, and the boy-shorts are akin to a tight pair of boxershorts, hence the name!
And for the barely there we move to the tanga, thong or G-string. All of these styles are cut higher on the leg and feature varying degrees of bottom coverage. The tanga is cut to the mid cheek, the thong creates a thick T shape and the G-string is a thin T shape, nestling between the cheeks.
Top Tips
There are even more bra styles to choose from than knickers! A fairly standard bra will be a variation on underwired, molded cups and padding, but they can come in styles such as T-shirt, push-up, plunging, balcony, full cup or half cup.
If something a bit less structured is your style look to the bralette, with no underwire, a bandeau, or perhaps something in a sheer material. Then there are more speciality bras such as sports bras and nursing bras. Whatever bra you opt for, making sure it fits correctly is the key. There is nothing more uncomfortable than a tight strap digging in and creating bulges in all the wrong places. Not to mention how much happier and healthier your boobs will be in a properly fitted bra.
It’s no secret that some saucy undies can excite and entice a lover, which makes Valentine's Day an ideal time to spoil yourself. But just as importantly the personal boost in confidence and self-appreciation should not be overlooked. And that’s all through the day, every day if you wish it to be!
