An annual campaign will once again offer support to Islanders facing loneliness and isolation this Christmas.
Age UK Isle of Wight’s 'No One Should Have No One' initiative aims to raise awareness about the support available to people suffering this festive season.
One million older people in the UK say they feel lonelier than ever at Christmas time and with 1 in 6 older Islanders aged 65+ living on their own, loneliness is a growing problem for older people locally.
Feeling isolated doesn't necessarily mean you have no one nearby. Someone may be surrounded by friends and family but still feel lonely.
Loneliness is unique to every individual. It can have different causes and consequences for each of us such as depression, sleep problems, psychological stress, and mental health problems.
A spokesperson for Age UK said:
"Age UK Isle of Wight is here to help and support those who need the most.
"As an Island Charity we know that times are tough but please help Age UK Isle of Wight, to ensure we can continue to be there for those who have no one else to turn to, by donating whatever you can to our appeal today.
"Every £5 directly supports our befriending service, helping to secure its future, with all donations raised from the 'No One Should Have No One' campaign staying right here on the Island."
