February News from Ryde South. By Cllr Karen Lucioni

How are you all?  I know this incredibly strange time has been extremely hard for everyone including my family and me. I miss being with everyone and having conversations with you all.  I am hoping with everyday we edge closer to normality again.  I continue supporting wherever I can and asked to help.  I have been delivering the Beacon into places that would like them to keep you all up to date with news from the community.

Aspire continues to be a lifeline and be there to offer help with medication deliveries, calling those who like to have a chat and the food project remains extremely important and essential to many in our town.  I have been out delivering to those in need and continue for volunteer for them.  I have become involved with a food project in Oakvale to make sure those who need support and able to access a food project at this end of our town, can.  If you would like to know where this is, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respect Ryde Project and I offered out litter pickers to families and bubbles so that we can continue to look after our environment while out on our daily exercise, this was hugely popular, and I delivered them all socially distanced and safe. I thank everyone who helps to look after our public space’s beaches and streets. It such a great shame we are still unable to get together.

I would like to assure you if you need to talk with me, I am always available, not being able to offer a surgery now, it is especially important that I am easily contactable, you can WhatsApp, text, phone, email or contact me on social media.  I can offer a Zoom meeting if you would like to have a face-to-face chat. Whatever if good for you is fine by me.

I did get out to my ward a list of contacts so we are in contact with organisations that might be of help to everyone. Here is a copy for you all.

I am actively involved with Ryde Town Council daily and still chair the Facilities and Assets Committee. Hopefully soon we will be engaging with you all to find out what you think of the services we run for the community and how we can make them better for you all.

I do get asked about my opinion about the vaccine. I have been lucky enough to have had one through the NHS programme because I work in social care. I am lucky and I feel it. I had no side effects and still observe social distancing, covering my face and making sure I am socially distanced. Having or not having the jab is a personal choice and a decision for those offered it. I personally did not have to think twice, and I can only tell you my own experience of it. I believe in choice however please do your own research before making up your mind. I care for all of you regardless of what side of the argument you are on, and just want health and happiness for everyone.

I have also volunteered at Westridge alongside Aspire volunteers to meet and greet people on their way to have their vaccine and wanted to say thank you for everyone who continues to give time to this project. I has received so many wonderful comments from those visiting and has put any people at ease. Well done everyone!

Fly tipping continues to be high on my agenda, along with those allowing to let their dogs foul on our streets.  Owners have been fined recently and this will not be forgotten on my watch, as residents are really fed up with the total lack of respect and consideration. If you see fly tipping or dog fouling report it to info@islandroads.com for them to raise a job to remove it.
