Join Kevin Shaw for a lecture exploring Tennyson's famous poem and its historical context.

The stirring tale of Tennyson’s famous poem is set against the blundering heroics, unbelievably incompetent leadership and terrible suffering of the soldiers. With many of the images of the first-ever war photographer among the illustrations, this talk reveals how the vivid first-hand reports of the world’s first war reporter not only shocked the public at home and drew Florence Nightingale to the Crimea, but also inspired Tennyson’s tremendously popular poem – without which the infamous ‘Charge’ (here clearly explained) would probably have passed largely unnoticed in British history.

Tickets are £5 and all proceeds support the museum's work. Booking is essential, tickets are available online at: bit.ly/ccm-tickets or phone 01983 523112 for more information.

Please note: the castle gates will be open from 10.30-10.55am with the talk starting promptly at 11am.
