Cancer charity launches Wish List to close £100,000 appeal

Wessex Cancer Trust has launched the final fundraiser of its £100,000 appeal to create a new cancer centre for the Isle of Wight.
Via the Wessex Wish List, the charity hopes to be able to raise the final £15,000 to kit out the new Newport support centre by the end of March.
Islanders can donate money for a specific item needed, from soft furnishings to therapy beds and everything in between.
The charity has managed to raise the £85,000 needed for the building work in just nine months.
The work will enable the charity to continue providing free services, such as professional counselling and complementary therapies, for Islanders affected by cancer for many years to come. It will also provide a new area for groups to meet, more flexible space for new classes and activities and the creation of three new treatment rooms.
The charity has appealed for individuals, businesses, schools and other Island organisations to host their own events to help fund an item from the wish list.
Those who manage to donate £500 or more will be entitled to a named brick on a wall in the new centre, highlighting their contribution to the appeal.
It is hoped work to create the new centre, in Lugley Street, will begin in May.

Newclose not over and out – just yet!

Businessman, Brian Gardener, fulfilled a lifelong dream when he was the inspiration behind the building of Newclose County Cricket Ground, on the outskirts of Newport.
The Gold Standard ground was officially opened in 2008 by former England captain Mike Gatting and Brian spent some wonderful days at Newclose watching his favourite sport before he sadly died in early 2015 at the age of 73.
