If you’re leaving school or college, they are a great way to start your career, but did you know apprenticeships are available to anyone, of any age, including those in employment. They’re a great way to gain new knowledge, skills and qualifications and improve your career prospects. So, wherever you are on your career path take time to consider an apprenticeship.
APPRENTICESHIPS FOR SCHOOL / COLLEGE LEAVERS
So, you’re shortly leaving school or college – what’s next for you? If you want to start work straight away an apprenticeship may be for you. The range of opportunities is vast. You can start at a level which is right for you – intermediate, advanced, higher, up to degree level apprenticeships, providing an exciting career pathway and a real alternative to the traditional university route. Alternatively, you could join one of our full-time career focused programmes at Level 1, 2 or 3. These start in September at our Riverbank Campus in Newport and all include a work placement and the opportunity to progress onto an apprenticeship.
APPRENTICESHIPS FOR EMPLOYERS AND THOSE ALREADY IN WORK
Professional development – for you or your staff – can be expensive. However, with an apprenticeship, government funding can cover all or most of the costs. Apprenticeships offer huge potential for upskilling, retraining and career development for staff and new recruits of any age. Indeed, leading provider HTP Apprenticeship College’s average age for an apprentice is 29!
This is great news for employers – with the government funding at least 95% of the cost of an apprenticeship you only need to make a small contribution to upskill you staff – often as little as £100 plus VAT. And, if your apprentice is aged 16-18 over the length of their apprenticeship, you will receive a £1,000 government incentive.
No prior qualifications are required – it doesn’t matter if the applicant has a degree or no qualifications at all – there are apprenticeships for every level of knowledge and ability and you don’t need to take a pay cut. In fact, achieving an apprenticeship could lead to new career opportunities and a pay rise!
New Apprenticeship Standards continue to replace Apprenticeship Frameworks. These have been designed by employers to ensure they provide the skills, knowledge and behaviours business and individuals need to succeed. Each Apprenticeship Standard leads to an independent ‘End Point Assessment’ (EPA), allowing the apprentice to demonstrate what they have learnt.
Apprenticeships also include 20% ‘off-the-job’ training – providing time for the delivery of formal training. However, with HTP Apprenticeship College the programme of learning is individualised, enabling off-the-job training to be delivered on site at a time which fits in with the business and the individual apprentice’s commitments.
