Update from South Wight Safer Neighbourhoods Team

Reports of stone thefts in Ventnor during the spring are prompting a police appeal and warning for the summer. The thefts included several flagstones taken from the front of the ‘Hillside’ hotel in Mitchell Avenue towards the end of April. It’s believed whoever was responsible would have used a vehicle to move the items because of their weight.

Attractive old stone, metal, garden furniture and ornaments can make tempting and lucrative targets for thieves. I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep outdoor items as secure as possible, and to photograph and security mark them if they can. More crime prevention advice is available online at www.hampshire.police.uk

Anyone with information about stone thefts is asked to contact police by phoning 101 or emailing [email protected] Mini-com users can call phone 01962 875000. Information can be given anonymously by the phoning the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
