Go Orange for Independent Lifeboat Day!

Go Orange Day for Independent Lifeboats is on Friday 10th February. Ryde Inshore Rescue are calling on the community for support to join in and do something Orange. The crew themselves will be in Ryde with the lifeboat all day collecting and will be out that night visiting various places. On the Saturday some of the crew will be on the Wightlink ferries collecting and others will be running our patch “Racecourse Roundabout to Seaview” with our stretcher which will be our sponsored Orange event called “A Dash of Orange”. If you want to make a £2 text donation to the Racecourse event this can be sent by texting RYDE12 £2 to 70070.There are many schools and businesses joining us for the day again and Inshore Rescue hope that Ryde will turn Orange like it did last year!

Historic Ryde Society AGM

The Historic Ryde Society’s AGM will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, February 2nd, 2012, at the Ryde Castle Hotel. The AGM will be followed by a talk, ‘Ryde – a Regency town’, by Roger Whitby-Smith. Members free, small admission charge for visitors. Raffle and refreshments available.

Computing Classes for the Over 50s

After a successful first year the Sherbourne Centre on Sherbourne Avenue is again offering low cost beginner computer courses for the over 50s. If you are interested in attending please contact Adrian Axford on 5562454.

Ryde Town Council – 2012/13 Budget and Precept Setting

The Town Council is in the process of considering setting the budget and precept (the money you pay to the Town Council for Ryde as part of your Council Tax bill) for 2012-2013. The Town Council has delivered a wide range of local services including decorative lighting, beach safety and planting schemes during the current financial year and Councillors will be considering where the budget should be allocated in the future. It had been anticipated that the Council would agree the budget and set the precept at a meeting on 9 January 2012 but this decision will now be taken at the Council meeting scheduled for Monday, 6 February (details below). Members of the public may attend. Should you have any comments or views on the budget or services please do contact your local councillor via the Council’s website, details below.
