Wight Squirrel Project And IW Red Squirrel Trust Confirm Events To Celebrate Mammal Week

Two Isle of Wight charities have announced events for next month's Mammal Week.

The first one is Name that Red Squirrel — a competition for children aged 12 and under — which runs until May 18.

Think up a suitably quirky name the company's new mascot red squirrel for the chance to win a family adoption for a year, a certificate and a red squirrel goodie bag.

Those wanting to enter should email their name, age and chosen squirrel name to wightsquirrels@hotmail.com.

The winner will be picked using an online randomised picker.

The mascot can be seen in the Red Squirrel Trust shop window in Newport's Pyle Street, where Lloyds Pharmacy used to be.

Isle of Wight Red Squirrel Trust Bluebell Day

Sunday April 28 - 10.30am to 3.30pm

Visitors can witness a display of bluebells in the private Knighton East Wood.

There are stalls and refreshments which are cash only.

Entry costs £3, with children free and dogs on leads welcome.

Funds raised go to The Isle of Wight Red Squirrel Trust.

You can find further details online.
