Top Trump: Isle Of Wight Technology Company Dons Glad Rags To Collect Top Award

Isle of Wight-based technology firm Innovative Physics has picked up another prestigious award – with a mention from an Artificial Intelligence (AI) version of Donald Trump for its innovative products as an extra bonus.

Innovative Physics (IPL) collected a silver award at the glittering ceremony aboard London’s historic Cutty Sark tea clipper for its neutron detector technology.

One example of where the neutron detector technology is being used is at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan, scene of a nuclear disaster in 2011 when an earthquake and tsunami destroyed much of the plant.

The detectors will help support stabilising and recovering the Primary Containment Vessels (PCVs).

Victoria Anderson Matthew, IPL director of business development and administration, was on hand to collect the award.

She said:

“The AI Donald Trump talking about what IPL does was a unique experience!

“On a more serious note, it was a great honour to win this top award and we are delighted to have been recognised in this way.

"It’s a great achievement for the whole team.”

IPL, a physics and maths-based R&D company, specialises in evolving sensor technology, AI and pattern recognition in the nuclear, homeland security and medical sectors.

It is based at Landguard Manor in Shanklin but has offices and staff members in the USA, Japan and South Korea.

The neutron detector technology has helped IPL achieve healthy revenue growth and employee numbers over the last three years.

It has developed cutting-edge neutron detector technology to monitor the neutron flux (a measure of the intensity of neutron radiation, determined by the rate of flow of neutrons).

Its neutron detector techniques will be enhanced further and deployed in other areas relating to nuclear reactor monitoring, including in the medical sector, such as monitoring neutron beam therapy patients.

The Engineering Matters Awards celebrate the best in innovation, sustainability, net-zero and health and safety, in British industry.
