Islanders Gearing Up For Annual Sandown Sprint This Weekend

Motor racing fans have less than 24 hours to wait until this year’s Island Car Centre Sandown Sprint.

The event, which gets underway at 9am on Saturday and Sunday, has attracted its strongest entry of cars yet.

One hundred cars are due to compete on a specially created track along Culver Parade in Sandown.

This year spectators can get closer than ever to the action.

The new Race Village in Fort Street will showcase all the cars and drivers before they venture out to the start line.

Cars range from legendary stars from the world of rallying to fire-breathing, NASCAR-inspired monsters, with almost everything in between.

Promoter Tim Addison said:

“It’s not often that Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Goodwood comes to the Island.

"Many of the cars at Sandown next weekend will be starring at events around the country this year and this is a unique chance to see them up close and personal, right on your doorstep”.

Tickets are priced from just £10 per day if bought online in advance and accompanied children aged 11 and under are totally free.

Sandham Gardens is also offering all of its attractions, including Dino Golf, the Skynets and karting, at half price.

Cars will start from Fort Street before driving against the clock towards Yaverland.

A full list of entries can be found on the event website together with information about how to best enjoy this year’s Sprint.
