Update From Councillor Richard Hollis

This has been another busy year in Parkhurst and I am most grateful to all residents who have contacted me whether about roads, traffic, street lighting, speed limits and other reasons including wind turbines.

The 40 mph speed limit in Forest Road is now in place and we all hope it helps to reduce not only the speed, but also the noise.

I have continued to object to the long term proposal to add a T-junction with traffic lights to the junction of Forest Road and Parkhurst Road.

At last we have some commitment to have major attention to the surface of Hunnyhill. I am pleased to have been able to save the playing field for Hunnyhill Junior School, which is moving to its new Forest Road site. Perhaps the biggest concern that residents have is the proposal for two enormous wind turbines (410 ft high) on the Prison Farm land close to Parkhurst Forest. This potentially effects not only residents of Parkhurst but also a large area of Newport and beyond. I am working with local residents to support their views on the application, which they believe may seriously effect their lives.

I am pleased to be Chairman of Planning on the Island.
