Dance to the Family Friendly Beat

If you’re looking for a family-friendly festival, Rhythmtree certainly ticks a number of boxes – from dedicated children’s activities to free family dance and instrument workshops. Set in the picturesque woodland setting of Three Gates Farm at Calbourne, Rhythmtree (20-22 July) is now all set for its third year on the West Wight. The event promises three days of activities and entertainment with numerous bars, food concessions and market stalls. The most important part, however, is of course the music and over 60 acts promise to open visitors’ eyes to sounds they may not have heard before. Among the highlights is the music of Krar Collective, who will be premiering a unique performance commissioned for the BT River of Music part of the 2012 London Olympics.

With over 11 performers on stage the band will bring together instruments, singers and dancers from Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti to provide an unforgettable and colourful display of the music and culture of the Horn of Africa.
