Celebrity to Brave Walk of Fire for Walking Festival
Lead singer of Level 42, Mark King, will brave a walk of fire to launch this year’s Isle of Wight Walking Festival.
The Island celebrity will walk across a footpath of hot embers to help raise money for Beaulieu House on Saturday 5 May in St Thomas’ Square.
Beaulieu House is a respite centre in Newport that provides support for children with severe learning disabilities or health issues.
The event will also see a path of broken glass laid down for people to walk across in the name of charity.
Mark King said: “I am thrilled to have been asked to officially launch the 2012 Isle of Wight Walking Festival, and what an evening of fun filled terror awaits!
“I cannot think of a better way to spend the evening on 5 May, so please come along and let’s see how much money we can raise for Beaulieu House.”
The Isle of Wight Walking Festival is now in its 14th year and is the UK’s largest festival of its kind. The 16-day festival features almost 250 separate walks, from short simple distances to the 72 mile ‘round the Island’ walk, which involves trekking around the Island’s coastline in a 24-hour period.
