Walk for a great cause
The time is fast approaching for Island residents and visitors to put on their walking boots and prepare for the eagerly anticipated Walk the Wight, in aid of Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

Founded by Bill Bradley and Frank Stevens, what started out as a small team building exercise for Morey’s staff (now Jewson) has grown to become the largest fund raising event on the Island and the largest sponsored walk of its kind in Europe. Since it began in 1991, over £4million has been raised for the Hospice.
Although the main walk begins in Bembridge and snakes 26.5 miles across the Island to Alum Bay, there is a choice of five different walks and distances, from the ‘big one’ to a four-mile ‘Schools Walk’, providing the opportunity for people of all ages to participate, making it a real community event. There are water and toilet points across all routes and 300 volunteer event staff and marshals to support you on your journey.
If you reach key fundraising milestones you will be in line for one of the new limited edition bronze, silver, gold and platinum badges. Walk the Wight is the perfect opportunity to go for your first badge, or step up to the next level.

Children register through their school and registration forms and fundraising packs are sent home in children’s book bags. When children sign up to Schools Walk the Wight, they receive a fundraising pack which includes a map and stickers to record their miles and a sponsorship form to raise money for the hospice.
Children can clock up their miles however they choose, by walking to school, walking at the weekend or dog walking for a neighbour or friend. All walking counts and for every one mile or 30-minute walk children can mark this off with a sticker on the map.

*Register in any of our 10 Hospice shops until Wednesday, May 9th, although you can register in the Newport Hospice shop until the close of business on Saturday, May 12th.
*Register on the day for a suggested minimum donation of £20 per person, or £10 per adult and £5 per child for groups/families of three or more.
